7Berkeh: “With the completion of the required medical buildings, the launch of the English section of the hospital website (+), and the introduction of bilingual doctors and nurses, the Amir al-Mu’menin (AS) Medical Center in Gerash is ready to admit patients from abroad”, said Dr. Seyed Javad Mohaqeq, deputy of treatment at Gerash College of Medical Sciences, in an interview with 7Berkeh News Agency, in October 2025.
First Patient Admitted from Iraq
The first foreign patient was admitted to this medical complex just a few days ago: A patient from the neighboring country, Iraq, received medical treatment at this department. “the patient was a 62-year-old man from Baghdad, Iraq, who was referred to this center with a diagnosis of advanced bladder tumor”, stated Dr. Amir-Hamzeh Rowshan, Urologic Oncology Fellow at Gerash hospital, “this patient, as the first international patient of the center, underwent bladder removal surgery (cystectomy) and innovative bladder reconstruction or ileal conduit”.
“The patient is currently in a stable condition, with good general health, and is under the supervision of the medical team”, added Dr. Roshan, the head of the medical team.
Obtaining the License for Admitting Foreign Patients
This was the first practical step toward medical tourism and admitting patients from abroad in the main hospital of Gerash, which is administered by the College of Medical Sciences in the city. According to 7Berkeh, this May, Nima Honarvar, the head of the IPD (International Patients Department) of Fars Province, visited various wards of Gerash hospital to assess the necessary requirements for admitting patients from abroad. The agreement of IPD marks a validation and a step forward in utilizing the high-standard equipment and the infrastructure capacities of this center. “The license for launching this department has been issued by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education”, announced Dr. Mohaqeq a few days ago.
Economic and Cultural Opportunities For Gerash
The educational and medical complex of Gerash Hospital, equipped with advanced facilities mostly provided by the local benefactors, is one of the rare and well-equipped medical centers in the south of the country, which attracts many domestic patients from neighboring cities and provinces in Iran. Now, with the opening of the foreign patient admission department, this medical center is on the path of progress and development more than ever.
