۷Berkeh – Negin Akrami, Hooshang Jamshidi: After 20 months of being the dean of Gerash Medical Science College, Dr. Ahmad Abollahi, the prominent and well-known surgeon and cancer specialist, resigned from this post. He said in an interview with 7Berkeh that the Minister of Health has accepted his resignation, although no official letter to substitute him has been issued yet. Most probably, Dr. Mohammad Nabi Mohammadi, the current vice-dean of hygiene, will be the supervisor until a new dean is introduced.
Dr. Abdollahi told 7Berkeh that his reason for resignation is that he has decided to focus on his main job which is surgery and the treatment of cancer. “Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and many other neighboring provinces don’t have a center for cancer surgery, so many patients come here from the entire region,” he said, and went on to an incident that triggered his resignation: “I visited a patient last week. I had seen him before, but I had not been able to operate on him because of the office works in the college. He had been advised to go to Shiraz for treatment, but the high costs of treatment in Shiraz made him come back two months later. But unfortunately it was too late. At that moment, I realized that I was going the wrong direction. My duty is to treat people.”
Dr. Abdollahi is the fourth dean of Gerash Medical Sciences College. He is holding this office since June 2016 (Khordad 1395). The first dean was Dr. Ali Asghar Kowsari, from 1391 to 1392. Dr. Mirza Khalil Bahmani held the office for the longest time, from 1392 to 1394. The third dean, Dr. Jafar Hasanzadeh, was in this office for a short time, from 1394 to 1395.
