Traditional Ceremonies in Muharram Decade after Two Years

۷Berkeh: The two months of Muharram and Safar change the face of many cities which have a Shia majority in Iran because these are the months of mourning for Imam Hussain (PBUH), the third Imam of Shiites. It is fair to say that in smaller cities such as Gerash, the change toward a more somber and mournful atmosphere starts days before Muharram. The ceremonies come to a climax in Muharram decade, the first ten days of Muharram (between July 30th and August 8th this year).

This year, after two years of Covid-19 restrictions, people of Gerash returned to their traditional ceremonies of Muharram decade. 7Berkeh photographers produced several photo reports from these ceremonies which you can review on this page:
