7Berkeh – Raheleh Bahador: The triumph of Alaeddin Boroujerdi in the 12th of Islamic Parliament election was formally declared by the Governor of Larestan in the morning of March 2nd 2024. This is the sixth time he becomes MP. He was MP in the sixth to tenth periods of parliament and rose to such high positions as the Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security of the Islamic Parliament.
The election of Islamic Parliament members is held every four years in Iran. In the election that was held on Friday March 1st, the total number of 97207 votes were drawn out of the ballot boxes in the electorate area of Larestan, Khonj, Gerash, Evaz and Jouyom. This was a rather calm election since Boroujerdi’s triumph was anticipated by many. Finally, this experienced politician who ran for parliament from Lar for the second time, gained 39924 votes, 41 percent of total votes, and entered the twelfth Islamic Parliament.
The second in the list of candidates for the election was Qasem Farsoudeh, a candidate from Gerash that gained 20218 votes.
The successful experience of consensus in Gerash, which meant the sidestepping of other candidates who had a weaker chance to win in favor of one candidate, in the previous election made other cities to accede on a single candidate in order to strengthen the chance of their city to win. Accordingly, Lar as the most populated city in this electorate area announced Boroujerdi as its selective candidate. Gerash, the second populated city, introduced Qasem Farsoudeh; Khonj chose Vahid Hadipour; Beiram introduced Allireza Shahrokhian; and Evaz chose Mehran Askari as their candidates. Eventually, it was Boroujerdi who won the competition among the fourteen candidates.
Like all the other cities in Iran, the share of void votes was striking in this period as they included 5345 votes in this electorate area, namely 5.5 percent of votes in general.
