7Berkeh: First call for entries for The Ahmad Eghtedari Award was issued on April 30th, on Persian Gulf National Day, to commemorate Dr. Eghtedari (1925-2019), the great scholar aptly named “The Father of Persian Gulf Studies”.

“Ahmad Eghtedari left behind an invaluable body of scholarly research which has become the basis of studies around Persian Gulf and the south of Iran,” says Mohammad Sadegh Rahmanian, the president of the scientific committee and Dr. Eghtedari’s trustee, “The Persian Gulf Library in the Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia is dedicated to him. Therefore, we thought a scientific and scholarly Award is the best way to commemorate his name.”

Ahmad Eghtedari Award is a biennial international scholarly Award held in Gerash, Iran, Dr. Eghtedari’s hometown where he is also buried according to his will. The Award goes to scholarly works concerning Persian Gulf and the south of Iran. Accepted formats are limited to books, scholarly articles and academic M.A. and M.Sc. theses and Ph.D. dissertations in the fields of history, linguistics and cultural studies. The works should be in Persian language. This call for entries is open for works published in the last 5 years. Submissions will be examined and evaluated by a jury consisting of five to nine university professors and scholars, and the winner will be announced in two years, on April 30th, ۲۰۲۳.
