Kal Surprises

7Berkeh: “Parviz”, “Nahid” and “Farewell Baghdad”. If you know the directors of these movies, Kal Short Film Festival has a surprise for you: their directors are selected as the jury in the 12^th festival.

 The festival announced the names of the jury members and the special guests for this year, which will be on February 2^nd to 4^th. Majid Barzegar, the successful filmmaker is a member of the jury, most probably its president. He directed “Parviz” four years ago and received international acclaim. His new movie, the serene and beautiful “A Very Ordinary Citizen” is shown for the first time in Fajr Film Festival. This is the second time, after the 9^th festival, that Barzegar is coming to Gerash as a member of the jury.

Ida Panahandeh, whose “Nahid” won a special prize for debut films in Cannes Film Festival in 2015, is the other member of the jury. And the third member is Mehdi Naderi, whose “Farewell Baghdad” was selected as the Iranian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards (Oscars 2011).

 And Amir Shahab Razavian, of course! This is the third time he is coming to Gerash, this time as a special guest. Razavian was the president of the jury in the 11^th and 9^th Kal Festival. His last film, “A Love Steal” (or “A Stealing Lovingly”?) is ready to come to cinemas. Who knows, maybe the movie’s premier is in Kal Festival!

The other special guest is the well-known cinema critic and teacher, Amir Saeed Qotbizadeh. He has worked as an editor in Film and Cinema, two leading publications in Iran, and is the co-author in the successful movie, “Absolute Rest”.
