The Huge Feast after the Holy Pilgrimage

7Berkeh – Raheleh Bahador: About as many as 150 thousand dishes of food were cooked in Gerash as Walima, a feast held by Hajjis after getting back from the holy pilgrimage to Mecca.

According to an estimate by 7Berkeh more than two-hundred people from Gerash have set on the pilgrimage to the land of Mecca this year. They returned to Gerash from July 10th and in the following days, the rites of their welcoming and walima were major events in the city.

Hossein Alemi, one of the pilgrims of Haj, estimated a few days ago that more than 1500 large pots of Gerashi rice and stew will be cooked this year. Each pot is usually served for 80 to 120 people; as such, nearly 150 thousand dishes of food was distributed just in a week!

Considering the fact that 38 thousand people live in Gerash, every Gerashi was on average invited to four meals this week.  Many Hajjis cooperate in holding their ceremonies collectively to reduce the expenses as well as the waste of food.
